and today.. I can’t believe how much it’s grown in just a year!    It would really be long if she hadn’t cut it all off.

Musings from today..

The kiddos are all in bed.. but of course NOT quiet yet. :)   Rohan went to bed without a single complaint tonight.. I think nightimes are all settled in his new bed already.  Naps on the other hand are NOT.   I’ve laid by his bed yesterday and today trying to get him to nap since he knows he has to STAY in bed when I’m in there.. today it didn’t work at all.. but he did lay there quietly for an hour and I think that helped him not to get so grouchy.. just from having some down time.

Started Lorien with some school last week and picked up math today.  I had NO intention of starting her yet.. I actually think it’s better to wait until they are closer to 6 to do real school work but she wanted to so we are. :)   We are doing learn to read in 100 easy lessons for phonics/ reading and I picked up a math workbook and we are doing that for some math.   Suprisingly she’s a much easier learner than Brianna was at 5.  She’s catching on to the reading and math both much faster.  She read the word me and see yesterday.. of course she only knows the sounds for m, e, and s so reading those words makes it sound a bit more impressive than it really is LOL.

Brianna’s fav. subjects are science and history by FAR.   Takes after me and likes the less useful topics the most. :) -     Her reading has come along amazingly well and she’s happy to sit there and read all our books now.   It’s fun to see her figure out new words with no help.

My mom and dad asked the girls tonight to go to the coast with them next month for 2 nights.. Brave folks I tell you.. BRAVE.   the girls are beyond excited about it.. although Lorien keeps saying something about feeding Brianna to the sharks.

I actually got to eat Taco Casa tonight.. Jesse had coupons (he hates it) and my parents, sisters, brother, and BIL (we all eat together on wed. nights) all were just getting drinks so I got away with it.. since I think there are only about 3 of us that like the place.

Kimberly’s baby shower is this coming tuesday!  She’s registered at Target. :)   Hope to see you all!  I’m looking forward to it.   Jesse says he can’t wait for their baby to get here since he’s convinced we are going to go broke buying baby gifts before she does.    It’s just so FUN buying baby stuff!

Brianna was THRILLED when she heard her memory verse for this week.. Genesis 1:1 – In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.   Not only is is short and easy.. she memorized it last year so it’s a repeat.  Slacker already.. I’ve never seen her so excited about school.. and it was because she didn’t have to do something this week.

Well.. that’s it for now.. I think I might actually go to bed before midnight tonight!

Today’s projects..

We’ve had a pink quilt folded and on the window seat but I figured that was a bit girly for Rohan’s new room. :)   So I went to Joanns this morning and bought the foam for the cushion and the fabric.  I had envisoned more like a 3″ cushion but when I saw that was $35 a yard I figured the 1″ would work just fine LOL.  The car fabric was only $3 a yard and is the table cloth type fabric so it should wipe off really easily.  The best part.. no sewing!  Folded it over and stapled.. took me about 10 mins :)

Next I wanted to hang up his bulldozer picture and had seen this idea on several blogs so I decided to try it.  I think it turned out cute and was cheaper than a frame. :)    It’s just scrapbook paper mounted to the wall with self stick squares.

I don’t know WHY I decided to do all of this today but hey.. at least alot got done.

1st up-  I painted our porch swing red and we actually hung it up again!

2nd project- rain gutter bookshelves!  Seriously.. they are made out of guttering.  I saw the idea on several blogs and loved it.  I like the books to face out and we were in BAD need of new shelving for our books.. so VOILA.  It looks great.. was easy (well.. kinda would have helped if Jesse’s saw wasn’t dull as all get out) and was also cheap :)

And lastly.  I 1st organized Rohan’s closet, took out everything that was too small, put in the things that are now starting to fit him, and cleaned it.. It had accumulated a good foot worth of toys in the bottom.   Then we decided to just redo his room LOL.  It went from a play room with a crib in it.. (can’t find a single before picture)

to a little boy room!

all that’s left is to get him this bean bag chair — went to buy it tonight and they were out! http://www.target.com/Circo-Hit-Road-Car-Bean/dp/B001U5VFXA/sr=1-1/qid=1251177462/ref=sr_1_1/177-7494125-3200012?ie=UTF8&search-alias=tgt-index&frombrowse=0&index=target&rh=k%3Abeanbag%20car&page=1

buy a frame for the picture of him in a bulldozer I had printed up.. and paint all the walls with a mural LOL.  ACK!  Thankfully I have a friend I can hire to do that.. I’d be hopeless at it.  I’m thinking about doing a race track mural on the side by the bed and grass/ sky on the other walls.

I’m tired!

a garage sale find

Just realized I never showed you guys this.  I got it at a garage sale a few weeks ago.   It’s hard to tell but the entire picture is done with crewel embroidery.. and it’s about 5 feet long!  I love handmade items so I just couldn’t pass it up.. plus it matches my house pefectly!  The only place it would really fit sadly was in the hallway.. and it had to be hung up high so it didn’t cover the airconditoner controls.. so not an ideal location but it works :)

This picture might give you a better idea of the size.

Isn’t it awesome?  And for only $10 or $15!  (can’t remember how much I paid)  I can’t imagine how long this took to make.

Sorry for the lack of posts lately!  I’m behind on posting here, editing picures, answering emails.. ACK!  Starting  to get caught up though thankfully.  Thought I’d post a quickie real quick from the laptop before I go to sleep.  Things have been going well around here lately.  We’re now in week 8 of 1st grade and we started Lorien with Learn to read in 100 easy lessons this week since I was tired of hearing her beg to do it.  Right now she loves it but we’ll see how long THAT lasts.   If she starts to dislike it we’ll wait a year or 2 before starting up again :)    She’s still so young I could care less if she does it or not.  Oddly enough though she’s getting it better than Brianna did this time last year.

Tax free weekend!  I think I’ll stock up on a few school supplies and clothing items we need ths weekend.  FUN stuff like socks LOL

I still can’t say enough good about the Sonlight homeschool system.  LOVING it.. just need to switch back to my old math though (righstart) it’s SO much better IMO.  Brianna can currently do her math with no help from me at ALL.. something tells me it’s to easy for her.

I REALLY REALLY need to take the kids pictures.. maybe I’ll do that early next week after I finish editing all my current sessions.  You guys might have to remind me :)

The weight loss.. is going LAMEO.  I’m running between 2.5 and 3 miles 3-4 days a week.. trying to get exercise in on the off days.. eating pretty healthily and the scale ain’t BUDGING.  I”m changed my goal to be 20 pounds lighter this time NEXT year .. and at my goal in 2 years (really) as slow as it’s going I think this is actually doable.

Well.. off to bed :)
